Some Thoughts on Social Media for Business Owners.

A friend posted about Instagram’s recommendations to optimize engagement with this posting schedule:

“3 IGTVs per week to grow. In addition to

5-7 reels per week.

3-4 posts per week.

7-10 stories.”

Oh, my sweet people people people.  Do NOT let social media take over your life!  Keep your mental health!?

This platform is a tool.  A tool to achieve your goals.

Yes, I’ve seen The Social Dilemma.  I’ve heard them say that our time, our attention is what’s being sold to the highest bidders.  And I get that perspective.

But there would be no Instagram or social media without us!  If we all decided to shut down our accounts tomorrow, what would they have?

I still say that WE are in control of our time. And our time is short.

WE choose! WE get to say who has the control over our time, our attention, our lives.

I’m a mama to two sweet girls.  I want them to get more of me than my blog or IG does.  I still love my blog and I love the connection with you all that social media has made so darn easy, but I love my kids more.  I love my husband more.  I love being outdoors and experiencing the beauty of this world and experiencing life fully.  I love making our home better and better every day for us—it’s a safe oasis to come back to after being in the desert of the world that’ll suck you dry.

A couple weeks ago, I told a friend here:

“Keep social media in its place!”

YOU are in control of what, when, and how you post, my sweet fellow human being.

YOU are in control of what place you give social media in your life.

YOU are in control of what you say and do.

No, we can’t control how many people Instagram and Facebook decide to show our content to, and that’s okay.  That is their control, not ours.  And they get to make the rules since it’s their platform, right?  I totally agree to that by using it.

They could show only 17 people this post of mine, and that’s their right.  They have the control of that.  I do not.  I am 100% aware of how things work in this relationship.

But IG and FB do not have control over my life and my time and how I choose to spend it.  That is 100% mine!  Mine mine mine!?  (Yes, channel your inner toddler if you need to!)

At the end of your life, what do you want to look back and see?

Me,

  • I want to grow & mature as a person.
  • I want to love my husband & daughters.
  • I want to be a loving friend.
  • I want to make my home support our life best.
  • I want to help others.
  • I want to do what I was created & born to do.

Sure, my blog and social media can help with some of that, but thankfully, my life goals are not dependent on something someone else is in control of!

Let’s focus not just on what we want to accomplish in this life, but THE KIND OF PERSON WE WANT TO BE in this life.

The kind of person I want to be and the life I want to live does not involve me making 3 IGTVs, 5 reels, and a bunch of posts & stories.  Just sayin’. 😉

So we’ll see where this leads those of us who choose this route…

..but (spoiler alert) I think it’ll be somewhere REALLY GOOD!

Boo yah!
